Day 8 'The Tour De Fleece 2011' One small step for spindling, one giant leap for me!

My oldest son's friend wanted to try my spinning wheel last night.  He tried very hard but it beat him.  He did master changing direction of the wheel with just his feet though.  I learnt to spin on a wheel, although I have read spindling is a good place to start.  I bought a spindle back in October and have had a love hate relationship with it ever since.  I just couldn't seem to grasp it.  Eureka!  Now it seems I can do it!  I took it to the park today and even in the wind could manage slowly but surely to spin 'Old Man's Beard' into a reasonable yarn!  I can't say I enjoy it... but I can do it!  It seems very slow compared to my wheel, but I know there are many people out there who spin beautiful yarns, love their spindles and have no desire to own a wheel.  I know it doesn't look like much but it is a triumph to me.
I just had to show you my new 'Picnic' plates too, I think they are very pretty.  The kids charged around the park while I had a nice 'Single Glass' bottle of wine and a Smoked Salmon Bagel with homemade Chilli Cream Cheese.  Spinning in the blustery wind!  It was enough to blow my fibre and my picnic blanket around, but do you think it would launch the kite?  Of course not!

  1. I'm glad you mastered the drop spindle, but you're a better woman than me as I have no desire to learn it as I love spinning on a wheel. I *love* the plates in your picnic basket, where did you get them? How old are the chickens? You're going to be so excited to get your first egg!! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. Good morning Teresa :) It is a lovely Sunny Birthday Day for my youngest today he is busy taking stock of his presents. My plates were from a large supermarket called 'Tesco'. They are having a half price sale on their outdoor and picnic stuff. My chickens will be sixteen weeks old on Tuesday. They are getting big and bossy. I have changed their food because the lady at the feed store said I wouldn't be able to eat the first egg if they were eating 'Growers'pellets. Can you imagine waiting this long and not being able to eat it!

Look at your drop spindle spinning.......I'm finding wheel spinning is going nowhere right now so got a drop spindle to practise on. Well I'm no better with that lol. Just got to keep trying I suppose ;-)

I appreciate and enjoy reading all of the feedback from your comments. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and sharing your thoughts. Sadly I have found it necessary to enable word verification, something I was trying to avoid...but I am receiving an unmanageable deluge of Spam! We don't want that do we? xxx :)
